Akrobeto, a veteran Kumawood actor, has told the public for the first time that he has lived in Accra for 43 years and has never paid rent.
Akrobeto says that when he moved from his village in the Ashanti Region to Accra in 1979, he was lucky to meet Apostle Kwadwo Sarfo, who took care of him for nearly 20 years.
When he turned 18 and was ready to move out of Apostle Kwadwo Safo's house, he tried to rent a new place. However, when his new landlord found out that he was the one who wanted to rent the house, he said no.
He said the following in an interview on Precise FM:
"I had nothing that was mine. My family had very little money. When I finished Form 4 in 1979, Apostle Kwadwo Sarfo sent someone to my village to bring me to Accra to live with him.
"Because I was humble and honest, I stayed with him for a long time without paying a dime. Even when I moved out and paid rent, the landlords either gave me my money back or said they wouldn't take it.
Akrobeto is still one of the most well-known and respected movie stars in the country.
With a career that spans more than 30 years and parts in more than 200 movies. He's almost a legend, and that will happen very soon.
