Samuel Bryan Buabeng, a member of the presidential staff, has criticized the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, for inviting the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to Queen Elizabeth II's funeral.
In a tweet, Samuel poked fun at the well-known chief by saying, "The local champion Efo James and his people should keep fighting over Yam festival donations."
Before he became king of Asogli, Togbe Afede was known by his real name, James Akpo.
The phrase "donations to the Yam festival" also refers to a recent event in which a member of parliament from Assin Central tried to give money to the annual Te Za Yam festival, but the Asogli State Council turned him down.
Kennedy Agyapong was officially invited, but his donations were turned down because he was invited wrongly, which was later explained.
Remember that King Charles III of Great Britain officially invited the Asantehene to attend the state burial of Queen Elizabeth II. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was invited to the late queen's lying-in-state, the king's reception, the state funeral service, and the foreign secretary's reception. The invitation was delivered on behalf of the king by the Protocol Directorate of the British government's Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office.
It also said that the Asantehene could bring his wife or a friend to the state funeral on September 19, 2022.
