The new Taylor Sheridan Yellowstone series, 6666, is headed south to tell the story of a new group of cowboys at the famous 6666 Ranch (pronounced "Four Sixes"). Fans of Yellowstone have been to the Texas property before. We first saw the ranch in Season 4, when Jefferson White's underachieving Yellowstone ranch hand Jimmy was sent there to try to get his act together. More stories about the ranch and the cowboys who work there will be told in this new series.
After hearing about the real-life history of the 6666, you might be surprised that it took Taylor Sheridan so long to figure out how to use it as a story. After the ranch's owner died in 2020, Sheridan bought the Four Sixes ranch in May 2021. Samuel Burnett, a rancher and oilman, started it in 1900, and it now covers three counties in Texas. Burnett died in 1922, and his ranch was given to his great-granddaughter, Anne Windfohr Marion, through the generations.
Anne Windfohr Marion was so cool that she could have been a Taylor Sheridan character herself. There is a whole page on Wikipedia about how cool she was. She owned a ranch and ran a business. She was the chair of the Burnett Oil Company. She started the Georgia O'Keeffe museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and the Hall of Great Westerners at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. She was married four times and owned seven homes, including a mansion in Fort Worth and an apartment on Fifth Avenue in New York. She has been on the Forbes list of billionaires more than once. In 2006, her net worth was estimated to be $1.1 billion. I hope she's based on a character in 6666, because she sounds like a big deal.
Premise
A press release from Paramount+ says that the show will look back at the history of the famous property. "The 6666 was started when the Comanches still ruled West Texas. It still runs the same way it did 200 years ago and covers an entire county. It has inspired a new scripted series where the rule of law and the laws of nature meet in a place where the most dangerous thing to do is the next thing.
Cast
There has been no official announcement of the cast, but in Season 4 of Yellowstone, Jimmy was sent to the Four Sixes to get in shape. He fell in love with the place, so instead of going back to the Yellowstone Ranch, he decided to stay there. But it has been said that White and Kathryn Kelly, who plays the girl he met at the Four Sixes, will be regulars on Yellowstone. Maybe that means that when Yellowstone comes back for Season 5, they will still be setting up the new show.
What to See Where
Yellowstone and 6666 will both be shown on Paramount Network, while 1883, 1923, and 1883: The Bass Reeves Story will all be shown on Paramount+. You can stream past seasons of Yellowstone on Peacock, but 6666 will probably be available to stream on Paramount+ after it airs on Paramount Network.
Why That Name?
Samuel Burnett is said to have won the ranch with four sixes in a card game, but his descendants say that's not true. Instead, they say the name of the ranch comes from the fact that Burnett branded his first herd of cattle with "6666."
Episodes
Paramount hasn't said how many episodes there will be, but both Yellowstone and 1883 had 10 episodes per season.
Date of Release
No release date has been given just yet. Yellowstone will come back on November 13, and the first episode of 1923 will air in December.
