POPLAR GROVE, Ill. (WTVO) — Melissa Gilbert, who is best known for her role as Laura Ingalls Wilder on "Little House on the Prairie," stopped by Edwards Apple Orchard.
"I love apples, and being able to pick our own was one of the best parts of the trip for me and my team.
This fall, we were able to go to Edwards Apple Orchard, a family farm in Poplar Grove, Illinois, that has been in the same family for four generations.
It has become a place where families can make traditions that celebrate the local tastes of fall, Gilbert wrote on Modern Prairie.
"We learned something new, like the best kind of apple to use for apple pie. We met amazing people and made new friends, like our young friend Aliza, who sat with Melissa and showed her a drawing she'd made for her," the production team wrote on the Official Modern Prairie Facebook page.
Gilbert wrote, "It's a beautiful place that's open to everyone, and happiness is everywhere, from the picnic tables to the petting zoo to the amazing orchards where different kinds of apples shine like beacons of hope." "What's best? There were donuts with apple cinnamon! As long as there are donuts, I'll be right here."
The Edwards Apple Orchard at 7601 Centerville Road is open every day in the fall from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"Little House on the Prairie" was on NBC from 1974 to 1983. Michael Landon played the father of a frontier family living in Minnesota in the 1870s to 1890s. The show was based on a series of books written by the real Laura Ingalls Wilder.
