Moreover, determine how little they paid for their "restorative" home. Melissa Gilbert grew up on the set of 'Little House on the Prairie.'
Gilbert, who played Laura Ingalls on Little House from 1974 to 1983, has stated that she has always enjoyed being on set. "I enjoyed being in the presence of horses and chicks," Gilbert told ET.
"At the end of the day, I would return to our rural lifestyle in the San Fernando Valley, complete with my chores, studies, and our beautiful home," She adored the outdoors and nature and stated, "I've always desired it in my life." Melissa Gilbert paid less than $100,000 for a "Little House" property with an outhouse.
In 2019, Gilbert and her husband, Timothy Busfield, relocated to a one-bathroom, one-outhouse residence in the Catskill Mountains of New York that she refers to as "the cabbage," a cabin-cottage hybrid.
The home's location on 14 highly wooded acres is a great plus for privacy. But, it was in dire need of repair when they initially purchased it. The couple purchased it for $98,000 and transformed it into a residence (per Realtor). They created flower plots and acquired chickens outside.
In 2022, Gilbert told ET that cabbage was very restorative. "My life has become more gentler. I no longer have the blazing ambition I once did." She believes she has "finally reached a time and a location in [her] life" where she values a "quiet, established, tranquil existence."
"Most of the tragedy and turmoil from my past has passed, and I have moved on. She stated, "I desire that in so many different ways." "... I made a deliberate decision not to have anything in my life that was not quiet and tranquil, particularly with the move to the farm." In addition, it appears to be a fantastic place for her home workouts, of which she is a lover. Melissa Gilbert pines for her Los Angeles relatives
Gilbert told ET that she misses certain aspects of Los Angeles, where she sold a million-dollar property prior to downsizing. She stated, initially, that she missed her adopted mother and other relatives. "... I miss my sister and my nephews, as well as my children and grandchildren who reside there," she said. She also misses her "girlfriends" and remarked, "Being away from these individuals is the hardest part."
She also remarked, "... The rest of it? I don't miss."
That would include, among other things, "the pressure,... the race,... and the competition." Instead, she decided to spend "the latter third" of her life in seclusion at "the cabbage."
