Season 3 of 'Bridgerton': Cast Announcements, Filming, Release Dates, and More

Take note, Dear Reader! Bridgerton is returning. Following the resounding success of Queen Charlotte's May premiere, the popular Regency romance is now in post-production on its anticipated third season.

Fans of the high-society drama are now eagerly anticipating word on the next installment's release, maybe from Lady Whistledown herself.

Bridgerton is named after and inspired by Julia Quinn's romantic novel series, which consists of eight novels. Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), Benedict (Luke Thompson), Colin (Luke Newton), Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), Eloise (Claudia Jessie), Francesca (Ruby Stokes/Hannah Dodd), Gregory (Will Tilston), and Hyacinth (Florence Hunt) are the Bridgerton siblings featured in each edition.

Season one focused on Daphne and her husband, the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), as told in Quinn's first novel, The Duke and I. Season 2 followed Quinn's second novel, The Viscount Who Loved Me, which chronicled Anthony and Kate Sharma's (Simone Ashley) enemies-to-lovers odyssey.

Here's what we know about Bridgerton season 3 so far. Season 3 will be centred on which book?

The first two seasons of Netflix followed the order of the books. Season 3 will, however, be partially based on Quinn's fourth book, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which centres on Colin and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan's) love story.

Coughlan revealed the news during the Bridgerton FYSEE panel in May 2022, and Rhimes verified it later on Instagram. Season 3 begins with Penelope (Coughlan) abandoning her long-held crush on Colin (Newton) after hearing his nasty remarks about her last season, according to Netflix's official synopsis. She has, however, decided that it is time to find a husband, preferably one who will give her enough independence to allow her to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters.

Penelope's attempts at the marriage mart, however, fail badly due to her lack of confidence.Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer vacation with a new style and major swagger.

But he's disappointed to learn that Penelope, the one person who has always appreciated him for who he is, is turning her back on him. Colin promises to train Penelope in the arts of confidence in order to help her find a husband this season, eager to reclaim her friendship. But when his lessons begin to work a bit too well, Colin must decide whether his feelings for Penelope are genuine.

Penelope's break with Eloise, who has found a new ally in an odd location, complicates matters, while Penelope's growing presence in the town makes it much the more difficult to conceal her Lady Whistledown dual ego.In March 2022, Rhimes hinted that the programme will not follow book order, although she reiterated her intention to convey everyone's tale. "There are eight Bridgerton siblings, so we're going to follow each of their romantic stories," she explained.

"We're not necessarily going in order, but we'll see each of the siblings and hear their stories."Bridgerton has been renewed through season 4 so far. Perhaps Benedict, whose love story was the subject of Quinn's third book, will take the stage at that point.

Was Julia Quinn's original book series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story?

Queen Charlotte is a semi-true narrative of a relationship between young Queen Charlotte (India Amarteifio) and King George (Corey Mylchreest) that took place some decades before Bridgerton begins.

The six-part drama, billed as a limited series, depicts the event in two timelines: one during young Charlotte's reign and the other as a bridge between Bridgerton seasons 2 and 3. Quinn's original book series did not include Queen Charlotte, though the author worked with Rhimes to construct her plot. The two collaborated on Queen Charlotte: Before the Bridgertons, there was the love tale that changed the tone..., which was released on May 9, the same day the show premiered.

Will Queen Charlotte reign?"There are some story points and story secrets that will definitely be played out in the next season of Bridgerton," Rhimes said in May 2023 to ET.

In Queen Charlotte, the flashbacks followed the elder titular protagonist as she begged her 13 adult children to choose a suitable husband and bear an heir. By the end of the season, she and King George's fourth-eldest son, Prince Edward, and his wife, Princess Victoria, had learned that they were expecting a girl. According to history, this infant will later ascend to the throne as Britain's famed Queen Victoria.

"I don't know if we're going to see her children or anything like that," Rhimes stated when asked if these plotlines would be woven into the wider fabric of Bridgerton. "On Bridgerton, for me and Golda, who plays Queen Charlotte, [it's] sort of her front-of-house persona, who she is in front of the people." And Queen Charlotte is, indeed, the back of the house. You see the kids, you see her as a mother, and I thought that would be fun to play with."

Rosheuvel shot Queen Charlotte and Bridgerton concurrently. "It was very informative," she said in a separate interview with ET. "It was very strange. It was disconcerting." "A lot of the stuff [established in Queen Charlotte] I will carry forward [in Bridgerton]," the actress stated. You can use it as an additional layer."

Is filming for Season 3 complete?

Yes. Bridgerton season 3 production ended in March 2023, according to Netflix. When the cast began production in July 2022, the show aired a promotional video in which they held three fingers to mark the start of their new chapter.

The charming clip ended with Coughlan and Newton opening the carriage door to unveil his co-star. "Bridgerton season 3 filming has officially begun," she announced. "Are you going in?"

"Let's go," Newton said, jumping into the carriage with her.Is there a release date for Bridgerton season 3?

No, no release date for Bridgerton season 3 has been revealed by Netflix.

Who will replace Bridgerton?

Aside from Coughlan and Newton, Bridgerton stars Simone Ashley (Kate) and Jonathan Bailey (Anthony) will return in season 3. Phoebe Dynevor, who played Daphne intermittently in season 2, and Regé-Jean Page, who did not return after his breakout first season, will not reprise their roles.Francesca Bridgerton, the Bridgertons' second-youngest daughter, was likewise recast for season 3.

Ruby Stokes filled the part, but she only made two brief cameos in season 1 and appeared in only a few episodes in season 2. Hannah Dodd, from Anatomy of a Scandal, takes over the role for season 3. Stokes' main role in Netflix's Lockwood & Co, which was cancelled after one season, was a major factor in the recasting.

Despite the fact that Penelope is revealed to be the genuine author at the end of season one, Julie Andrews will continue to voice Lady Whistledown.

"Oh, it's returning. "Oh definitely, yeah," Andrews said of her return to narrating duties in April.

What plotlines will be featured in the new season?

Season 2 finished with Anthony and Kate's wedding, but there was enough of drama for the tonne to deal with in the future season.

After keeping her Lady Whistledown identity hidden for much of season 2, Eloise realises that her best friend, Penelope, has been the one behind the quill the entire time, causing the pair to become separated by the end of the finale. With their friendship shattered, Jessie shared her thoughts on how the revelation will affect Eloise in the future.

"I believe she will be a good buddy. That's what I believe she will always be. In March 2022, Jessie hypothesised, "I think she'll be a loyal friend [who] didn't tell anyone." "I'm not sure what's going to happen. They may match scars, but I don't think she will. I believe she will be enraged, but will remain silent and respectful. "I doubt she'll want to ruin Penelope."

"I hope they can sort out their friendship as soon as possible, because I'm afraid that me and Nicola will never be able to be together again." So I guess I'd like her to keep looking into that. Season 2 truly examines other ways of thinking and different groups of people, different segments of society," the actress continued.

"I'd like to see that grow for her, to become more political." She's young, she's very brilliant, and she's very quick, so I believe she's the ideal person for the job. I'd like to continue exploring academic writings and the like."
