The Secretariat has announced that the arrears owed to previous NSS personnel will be paid by the end of the week.

The National Service Secretariat (NSS) has assured that the arrears owed to previous personnel will be paid by the end of this week.

Last December, the secretariat released a press statement to inform that the arrears owed to personnel from January 2023 to May 2023 would be paid. They also assured that the outstanding arrears from June and allowances would be paid in October 2023 and onwards.

In an interview with Citi News, Ambrose Entsiwah Junior, the Acting Head of Corporate Affairs for the National Service Scheme, confirmed that the Secretariat has successfully secured funds for the payment.

We are pleased to inform you that funding has been secured for the payment of arrears for June.

As a reminder, last year we made payments for those who had completed their service from January to May, and we still needed to cover the allowance for the month of June. I am pleased to inform you that we have now secured the necessary funds to make this payment.

The outstanding arrears for October 2023 will be paid no later than the close of this week, either tomorrow or Saturday.

Regarding the recent concerns raised by the 2023/2024 service personnel about the delay in their NSS allowance payment, Ambrose Entsiwah Junior kindly advised them to remain patient as the secretariat is currently making preparations to ensure they are paid.

"Due to the nature of service personnel not being permanent staff whose details have been calibrated into the Accountant General system, we have to follow a verification and validation process.

This process is carried out meticulously to ensure that every service person is accounted for and included in our system before we can proceed with payments."

Every year, during the first two months, there may be a delay in the service allowance, but rest assured, we are actively addressing this issue.
